PR Q&A | What should I do to make sure I consistently deliver what the media wants?

It’s three simple things:

1) Look for ways to make their job easier.
2) Provide value, value, value.
3) Build long, not short-term relationships.

The number one thing though is to be responsive (return their call, tweet, email immediately). Top tier media like Oprah, Fox and Friends or Good Morning America work on very short deadlines. So, if you’re getting a call on Friday, it’s most likely for a show on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. Pre-interviews, backgrounding and travel arrangements all need to be made within a day. So without fail, return media calls immediately. That means within an hour if possible and certainly within 24 hours. The early bird gets the worm, and in this case, the placement too.
